BIO

Jefferson Hora was born in Iligan City, Philippines. He received the B.S. degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), Iligan City, Philippines, in 2002, the M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering specialized in Microelectronics Integrated Circuit(IC) Design from National Taipei University (NTPU), Taipei, Taiwan, in 2009, and the Ph.D in Electrical Engineering—IC Design at the School of Electrical and Data Engineering (SEDE), Faculty of Engineering and IT (FEIT), University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Ultimo, NSW, Australia, in Feb. 2022.

Dr. Hora has received several prestigious academic awards, including the Taiwan Ministry of Education Scholarship Grant, UTS International Research Scholarship (IRS2018), UTS President’s Scholarship (UTSP2018), recognition as a grantee of the inaugural 2019 UTS Techcelerator Program, and the 2nd Best Paper Award at the 2019 Wireless Power Transfer Conference (WPTC). He has successfully led four externally funded research projects as principal investigator or program leader, collaborating with institutions such as UTS-Sydney, DOST-PCIEERD, and USAID-STRIDE.

Moreover, he initiated and founded the Center for Integrated Circuit Design (CICD) in 2023 as one of the centers under the Research Institute of Engineering and Innovative Technology (RIEIT) of MSU-IIT. As the founder and Director of the Center for Integrated Circuits Design (CICD) at MSU-IIT, Dr. Hora has been instrumental in advancing the field of microelectronics in the region.  Also, he received an Honorary Appointment from the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Sydney, Australia, as Visiting Scholar from June 2023 to May 2024.

He has served as a faculty member in the Department of Electrical, Electronics, and Computer Engineering at MSU-IIT since 2010. During his tenure as department chair (2014–2017), he spearheaded initiatives that led to the recognition of Electrical and Electronics Engineering as a Center of Development (COD) and as a Center of Excellence (COE) by the Philippines' Commission on Higher Education (CHED), respectively. He also established the Microelectronics Laboratory in 2010, which has become a hub for cutting-edge research and development. Furthermore, he initiated the Graduate Research Internship Program (GRIP) to foster stronger research collaborations and partnerships with industry.

Currently, he has been the project leader of Project-4: Energy Harvesting Technologies for Battery-less IoT Device Application of the DOST-funded program project, titled the Center for Integrated Circuits and Devices Research (CIDR), a three (3) research project August 2023 to August 2025.

His current research interests include power electronics, DC-DC converters, energy harvesting ICs, FPGA related designs, WSN circuits, and systems.
