BIO

Jefferson Hora was born in Iligan City, Philippines. He received the B.S. degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), Iligan City, Philippines, in 2002, the M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering specialized in Microelectronics Integrated Circuit(IC) Design from National Taipei University (NTPU), Taipei, Taiwan, in 2009, and the Ph.D in Electrical Engineering—IC Design at the School of Electrical and Data Engineering (SEDE), Faculty of Engineering and IT (FEIT), University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Ultimo, NSW, Australia, in Feb. 2022. Jefferson Hora received several academic awards, which mainly include the Taiwan Ministry of Education Scholarship Grant, UTS International Research Scholarship (IRS2018), UTS President’s Scholarship (UTSP2018), grantee of the first 2019 UTS-Techcelerator Program, and the 2nd Best Paper Award at 2019 Wireless Power Transfer Conference (WPTC 2019). He already managed five (5) externally funded research as principal investigator/program/project leader to the following research funding institution/agency: UTS-Sydney, DOST-GIA, DOST-PCIEERD, USAID-STRIDE.  

Recently, he has been the project leader of Project-4: Energy Harvesting Technologies for Battery-less IoT Device Application of the DOST-funded program project, titled the Center for Integrated Circuits and Devices Research (CIDR), a three (3) research project August 2023 to August 2025. Moreover, he initiated and founded the Center for Integrated Circuit Design (CICD) in 2023 as one of the centers under the Research Institute of Engineering and Innovative Technology (RIEIT) of MSU-IIT. Also, he received an Honorary Appointment from the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Sydney, Australia, as Visiting Scholar from June 2023 to May 2024.

He has been a faculty member of the Department of Electrical, Electronics, and Computer Engineering of MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology since June 2010, a former department chairman of Electrical/Electronics/Computer Engineering (2014-2017), and he leads the Microelectronics Laboratory and its programs of the department since its official inception in 2010. He also established the Graduate Research Internship Program (GRIP) of the microelectronics program to strengthen the research collaboration and relationship to its industry partners. His current research interests include power electronics, DC-DC converters, energy harvesting ICs, FPGA related designs, WSN circuits, and systems.
