Visiting Lecturer Program for Microelectronics

Semester 2, AY 2023-2024

The CIDR Visiting Lecturer Program, organized by MSU-IIT's Center for Integrated Circuits Design (CICD) under the DOST-funded Project 4: Energy Harvesting Technologies for Battery-less IoT Device Applications of the Center for Integrated Circuits and Devices Research (CIDR), aims to enhance microelectronics education in the Philippines, particularly in Mindanao. This initiative facilitates knowledge exchange through technical discussions and lectures, featuring distinguished faculty members visiting various universities to share their expertise.

On March 20, 2024, Prof. Ace Virgil Villaruz from USTP Cagayan de Oro delivered an extensive lecture on Digital IC Design, covering topics such as ASIC Flow, Cadence Tools, and VGA controller design. Key attendees included Dr. Gene Fe Palencia, Prof. Nieva Mapula, and Dr. Harreez Quimque, all significant contributors to the CIDR project.

Following this, on March 22, 2024, Dr. Harreez Quimque from MSU-IIT shared her expertise on Analog IC Design at USTP CDO, focusing on Common Source Amplifiers, with a detailed discussion on Resistor Loads, Diode-connected Loads, and Triode Loads. Her lecture was attended by local faculty members, reinforcing the collaborative spirit of the program.

On April 19, 2024, Prof. Re-Ann Cristine Calimpusan visited MSU Marawi to deliver an 8-hour lecture on Analog Custom Layout, which included Inverter Layout, Logic Gates Layout, and various Resistor Layouts. Her presentation was well-received by both students and faculty members, including notable attendees such as Prof. Susie Maestre and Prof. Karla Madrid-Khalid.

Prof. Kevin O. Maglinte continued the series with visits to Notre Dame of Marbel University and MSU-General Santos on April 22 and 24, 2024. His lectures covered the objectives and achievements of the newly established Center for Integrated Circuits Design (CICD), and an introduction to microelectronics and IC design, offering invaluable insights to the attendees.

On April 26, 2024, Prof. Susie Maestre from MSU Marawi lectured at Caraga State University, focusing on Digital IC Design, including ASIC Flow, Cadence Tools, and CCIR-656 Decoder and Encoder. This session, held at CSU's Microelectronics Laboratory, was attended by key faculty members, including Prof. Re-Ann Cristine Calimpusan.

The program concluded on April 27, 2024, with Prof. Calimpusan's visit to Surigao del Norte State University, where she delivered another comprehensive lecture on Analog Custom Layout. Her technical talk covered vital topics such as Inverter Layout, Logic Gates Layout, and various Resistor Layouts. The event saw participation from students, faculty advisors, and the Dean of the College of Engineering and Information Technology.
